Filing Deadline Extended to March 30 for Some Tax-Exempt Organizations

Don’t you just love the holiday season?  People are walking around with smiles, vacations are being used, and parties fill your calendar.  It seems as if the Internal Revenue Service has joined the festive club as they announced that they are allowing tax-exempt organizations with January and February filing due dates to file by March 30, 2012.  This applies to filings of Forms 990, 990-EZ, 990-PF, 1120-POL and includes those who have already been extended into the January/February window.  Some people are probably saying, “Great!  This just means more forms to fill out!”  That’s not true, however.  No additional forms are required!  The IRS simply asks that a reasonable cause statement be attached to the tax return.  This is all due to the e-filing system used by the above mentioned organizations being off-line during January and February.  The IRS does encourage filing early before the end of December.  Find additional details on the IRS Website
